Off The 110

We are Karen and Jim of Highland Park, Los Angeles, off the 110 Freeway.  Our neighbor is 102.  That is not his temperature.  We have two kids, A, 6 and D, 10, a dog, Sakari, and sleep with the air conditioner on even in winter for that white-noise-dead-to-the-world sleep.  We work freelance, meaning we are free to fantasize about all the things in life that might be.  Periodically Karen will sit up in bed in the middle of the night, stroke her hair and smile into the darkness. Periodically Jim will buy shoes that he doesn't actually like and spend three days questioning not only the shoes but his very existence, then he'll return the damn shoes.
